55 Mag Earthquake Shakes Alor Region East Nusa Tenggara NTT No Tsunami Potential
TRIBUNBATAM.id, KUPANG -- A tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 shook the waters of Alor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Saturday (10/30/2021) evening.
Head of the East Nusa Tenggara Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Margiono, said the earthquake occurred at 19.11 WITA.
The epicenter of the earthquake, continued Margiono, was located at coordinates 7.61 degrees south latitude and 125.46 degrees east longitude, or to be precise at sea at a distance of 124 kilometers northeast of Alor Regency, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
"By taking into account the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was a shallow type of earthquake due to back arc thrust activity," said Margiono.
The results of the analysis, said Margiono, the source mechanism showed that this earthquake had a horizontal upward movement mechanism of an oblique thrust fault.
The shock of this earthquake was felt in the Alor III MMI District and Belu District and Kupang City.
